June 10, 2010 + 2 years

These were the wee hours. Belaboured breath, the cold climbing and the insistent heart beat- restless-straining to hang on. The pain etched into you.
And whispers, songs and prayers, it's OK. Go to Him- go to heaven, you can let go. Love waits.
But how it hurt to say!
Heaven drew closer -opening into the room. And we knew it's presence. But it waited. Waiting for you to turn and go.
Rest waited. Peace waited. Love waited. But you waited- how could you turn away from us?
it had been hours in the same position. Breathing erratic, now. Such effort.
And I knew. We had to leave the room-you could not turn away.
Your God, your hope, your freedom waited, but how you loved us, too!
And so I nodded, "Tell the orderlies to come and turn him".
We left - the dawn was breaking.
And you went home.
